Who We Are

At GenXTraveler, we cater to travelers aged 40-60 who grew up in the golden age of MTV and straddling both the analog and digital eras. We know you value your independence, cherish quality time with loved ones, and seek out adventures that keep you young at heart. Our community is made up of active explorers, cultural enthusiasts, and those who appreciate a touch of luxury in their travels.

How We Started

GenXTraveler began in 2015 out of a need for a travel blog that truly resonated with Gen X. Most blogs catered to 20-somethings or retirees, but I found little for active travelers like us, balancing kids, grandkids, careers, and aging parents.  I created GenXTraveler to fill that gap, offering a dedicated space for our generation to explore the world, stay active, and live life to the fullest.

Our Purpose

GenXTraveler helps you navigate the world with ease, offering comprehensive travel guides, tips, and recommendations that align with your interests and lifestyle. Whether you’re on a solo journey, a romantic getaway, or a multigenerational family vacation, we’ve got you covered.

How We Can Help

A mix of adventure, experiences, relaxation, and discovery fuels your wanderlust. Our detailed itineraries balance these needs, ensuring your trips are both invigorating and restful.

Picture yourself exploring Arlington, Virginia by bike, kayaking through serene waters, hiking majestic trails, or experiencing the adrenaline rush of ziplining and rappelling. For those who cherish gardens, art, and architecture, our guides take you to awe-inspiring places where these elements come together beautifully.

Let’s not forget the culinary delights—savor local cuisine, explore vibrant food scenes, and indulge in winery tours and tastings that leave your taste buds tantalized.

When it comes to relaxation, we know you seek comfort without compromise. That’s why we recommend high-quality hotels, luxurious resorts, and epic cruises that offer the perfect escape.

Planning a trip can be daunting, but with GenXTraveler by your side, it becomes part of the adventure. Our resources simplify the process, offering tips on logistics, packing lists, and itineraries to ensure a smooth, stress-free journey.

For multigenerational vacations or trips with friends, our guides ensure everyone has a memorable experience, balancing diverse needs and interests.

Join Our Community

Welcome to GenXTraveler where your next great adventure begins!

Who is Generation X?

This is the generation born between 1965 and 1980-ish.  We grew up with one foot in the analog age and the other in the digital revolution. We were the first generation where divorce was the rule rather than the exception to it. We are fiercely independent probably due to being the “latch-key generation.” We were raised on MTV and microwave dinners. We came of age listening to New Wave, Hip-Hop, and Grunge.

And now that we are all grown up, we still live and behave in ways that are unique to our generation. We are younger at heart than the generation that came before us at this same age. In many ways we are perpetual adolescents—sarcastic, fun-loving and always on the lookout for our next adventure.

When we travel, we enjoy a bit more luxury than other generations, we have a habit of going over budget on vacation and multi-generational trips are a favorite among us. Plus, we tend to be active adventurers. This should come as no surprise as most of us say we still feel like we are still twenty-five.

Until now our generation has been almost entirely overlooked. Sandwiched between Baby Boomers and Millennials, we are the “middle child” of generations. But our time has come!

At this point, the entire generation is over 40. We will soon overtake the Baby Boomers in numbers, and we’ve already surpassed the other generations in buying power.

Gen X is coming into our own and we are a force to be reckoned with!!

About Susan

Hi! I’m Susan, the creative behind GenXTraveler.

I like travel, dirt…and coffee! (Not necessarily in that order)

In 2019, my husband, Bill and I purchased a 1980s retro contemporary home in need of some love. It’s the perfect home (project) 😂 for a Gen Xer and a Boomer.

Our home sits on 2-1/2 wooded acres. We have a wonderful patio surrounded by perennial beds and a manmade pond with a waterfall. Often you will find me here as I love to have my hands in the soil.

We share our little slice of heaven with our rescue pets: 4 cats 🐈‍⬛(Abby, Cheetoh, Cosmo, and Syd) and our two dogs 🐕 Nola and Dax.

In 2021, at the glorious age of 55, I decided I’d take up mountain biking 🚲. Doesn’t everyone?? 😂 I fell in love! I am by no means a pro, but I love getting out on my local trails.

When traveling, I love exploring all kinds of gardens and taking in the local flavor by visiting independent coffee shops and roasteries.  I seek out underrated small towns and walkable cities where stunning architecture meets a bit of grit.

My adventures blend my appetite for artistic beauty, high-octane experiences, delicious flavors, and relaxation into a seamless and fulfilling experience.
